Father/Son Bonding

Father/Son Bonding

When I first downloaded App in the Air and paired it with my Gmail and TripIt accounts, I quickly realized this was going to be an obsession. I wanted to have a completed globe and collect all the badges I knew I had achieved. In order to do so, I would have to fill out all the travel I have ever done (before the niceties of the internet and e-mail.)

Growing up, my dad worked for the airlines and much of our travel was done via standby. Traveling has been a huge part of his life and (increasingly) a big part of mine. My memories of our trips are foggy from when I was younger, and so my dad and I sat down one night and started to brainstorm all the travels that I was missing. He remembered not only the trips but even times we had to make connections and what type of planes we flew (MD-11 to Zurich for the 1992 Albertville Olympics! How does he remember that?) He had been keeping his own logs and even had some of the original boardings passes as mementos.

This has been a great opportunity for some father/son bonding. I’ve loved seeing my world map become complete with the travels of my youth.

Thanks for the great platform.
